In my work I focus on making new concepts comprehensible in a light-hearted and snappy way. Since graduation I have worked together with startups on creating friendly explainer videos, next to gaining some office experience at an international online store.
When working on a new project for an explainer video I begin by collecting as much information as necessary to understand the topic fully. If I want to explain a concept well to others, of course I have to grasp it myself first. My second mission is to think about a way to make the topic accessible and interesting to the target audience — be it with humour, a little anecdote, a metaphor or a fun visual style. Once I have an idea, I plan my process, work out a script and then a storyboard. I believe that only a great script can result in a great animation. The best way to get a feeling for the different shots and their timing is to make a moving storyboard, which can also be a helpful representation to gain other's feedback.
The animation process can be as simple or detailed as the time and scope allows, but most importantly it has to be consistent. This is why I start with clear visuals that I enhance later to make a smooth, professional-grade animated video that is a pleasure to watch.
